“From laying in pain each night, to almost normal movement.” These are the words Dick shared when asked how implementing a fitness program has been successful for him.
According to Dick, “after almost 50 years in the heavy construction industry, my 80 year old body was protesting almost any type of physical activity. My lower back, hips and knees presented the greatest pain and discomfort.
Many injections, scopes and ultimately, total replacement of my right knee and hip, resulted in moderate relief, but also, a few new issues. I tried medications, physical therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, etc, with varying results. I had my left knee replaced late in 2021, followed by physical therapy with excellent results. Unfortunately, the right side still required some medication use and a cane.
Some friends at Bellin Health Ashwaubenon recommended talking to Jim Beversdorf at the fitness center. I did just that and, after a thorough consultation and evaluation, we came up with a program for me to follow. Jim’s ideas of stretching, bending, twisting, upper body, coordination, balance and some aerobics have worked wonders for me. He encouraged me to spend less time sitting in my recliner, too. (Once you know how bad this is for your posture, your recliner will look less enticing!) At 80 years old, I still get the occasional ache or pain, but if this is as good as it gets, I’m OK with it! In a couple of months, Jim has improved my quality of life exponentially. Thanks, Jim!”
